Okay so it seems that the film ‘300’ hit the screens all that time ago, however we are constantly asked about the workout plan that King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and his army of Spartan’s followed to get themselves into fighting shape. The blockbuster film hit the cinema with a wealth of finely tuned warriors ready to take on the world as they battled to save Sparta and although the film was fantastic, it seems that the real take home point was the desire for fitness lovers across the globe to be able to get their own set of steel abs, muscle ripping shoulders and backs that looked like they were carved by the gods themselves and in reply to your battle cry, we deliver! The 300 Spartan workout routine is the creation of Mark Twight, a men’s trainer with a wealth of knowledge and understanding and based on his training routines he was able to take a cast of men, in which many were as much as 40lbs overweight, and make them into tuned warriors ready to fight alongside their king. Withtime against him, Twight knew that he would have to create a workout that would allow the cast to be able to convert themselves into aesthetically pleasing warriors, despite the wide range of varied fitness levels and his ‘300’ Spartan workout delivered that in just a couple of months. Based on a giant-set mentality, you are meant to build up your fitness level and fatigue resistance to a level in which you can complete the workout plan without the need for extensive breaks between the exercises, however you must complete the rep counts or you’ll fail to see the results so keep at each exercise and complete them before moving on. Finally, as a sidenote it should be known that the ‘300’ cast members did not complete this workout on a daily basis, instead it is intended to be the final aim that they work towards in order to complete their training and they were supported by a professional trainer to ensure that their technique and lifts were correctly compiled.
