In 2014 and 2015, I was diagnosed with a bilateral pulmonary embolisms (PE) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Both diagnosis happened about 14 months apart from each other and both occurred while I was exercising. The consequence of the diagnosis is that it took me close to 12 months to get back to my normal workout routine.
I am happy to go into detail about my PE and DVT but wanted to put it out there so you know where my starting point is. When I made the decision in December 2015 to lose weight through diet and exercise; I needed to first increase my endurance as I had lost it to the DVT. I have spent the last few months increasing my endurance and I am starting to see a plateau in my elliptical machine workout so I am changing it up. Next week I will start introducing weights and HIIT (high intensity interval training) into my workout routines. In terms of weight I just want to maintain my strength.
